vs. Cincinnati Mighty Ducks

Whatever happened in the Admirals locker room during the first intermission needs to happen more often. The team woke up from a less than impressive first period to dish out 5 unanswered goals on their way to a 9-3 victory of the not-so-Mighty Ducks.

During pregame warmups, we were surprised by a few things. Brian Finley was absent, and Rockford Ice Hogs (UHL) goaltender Michel Robinson was dressed in his place. Ed Campbell was in his first pregame skate and would end up playing his first game with Milwaukee. And some good news, Ryan Suter participated in pregame practice, his first visible on-ice activity since separating his shoulder a month ago. He would not play tonight however.

Seamus Kotyk got his first start in front of the home crowd, and only his second game of the year. Ducks goaltender Frederic Cassivi started the game across the ice from Seamus.

Cincinnati rookie Dustin Penner scored his first professional goal to give the Ducks the early 1-0 lead. Jordin Tootoo scored his second goal of the year on a long blast from the blue line to tie it a few minutes later.

Timofei Shishkanov scored a power play goal to give Milwaukee the lead, but Zenon Konopka tied it up for the Ducks 22 seconds later.

The second period belonged to Milwaukee. Dan Hamhuis scored on a blast from the blue line on a power play to give Milwaukee the lead for good. Brandon Segal scored on a shot from beyond the right faceoff dot after getting a nice cross-ice pass from Brad Tiley. The Ducks changed goalies and put in Ilya Bryzgalov.

The goalie change didn't phase the Admirals, who rattled off two goals by Simon Gamache and Vernon Fiddler to give Milwaukee a 6-2 lead. Minutes later, the Admirals had a 3-on-1 shorthanded breakaway and capitalized on a blast by a trailing Andrew Hutchinson

The third period signalled the return of starting goaltender Cassivi for Cincinnati. Shane OBrien scored in the third to make it a little more respectable for the Ducks.

Fiddler scored his second of the night with less than 7 minutes remaining (originally credited to Hutchinson), and Scottie Upshall scored with 0.1 seconds remaining on a breakaway to make the final score 9-3.

The team was a perfect 9-for-9 on the penalty kill, upping their league leading percentage to 95.29 (4% higher than the next best team). The power play lit the lamp three times, ranking the team 6th in the league for the season. Cincy outshot Milwaukee 33-30, which makes the score even more impressive.
