vs. Manitoba Moose
at the Bradley Center
2004 Calder Cup MVP Wade Flaherty came back to the Bradley Center for the first time since leaving the team in June following the team's AHL triumph. The Milwaukee crowd went light on him, only doing the tired 'you suck' routine once. The Moose came to town for two games against Milwaukee after losing two games last weekend in Chicago.
The Admirals dominated the first two periods of the game, but didn't have much to show for it. After 40 minutes, the team held a 41-11 lead in shots taken. The problem was that the shots were usually low, and Wade was often on his knees before the shots were taken. It's no coincidence that the only goal Milwaukee got in regulation was shot high by Ryan Suter.
One story that I haven't heard the end result to was an apparent injury to Jordin Tootoo in the first period. After he crashed into the boards at high speed (missing his intended victim), he retired to the locker room and didn't come back to the game.
The third period wasn't as kind, as Milwaukee couldn't control the tempo due to three penalty kills. Manitoba gained confidence and scored after The Turnstile Hamhuis skated right past a loose puck that found it's way into the Admirals net a few seconds later.
For the second straight game, Admiral fans were treated to a shootout. After Simon Gamache and Wyatt Smith were successful on their attempts, Libor Pivko came close by ringing one off the post. It came down to the league's oldest player (Tony Hrkac) skating in for a shot against the league's second oldest player (Wade Flaherty). Hrkac was able to find the five hole, and Finley made one last save to end it after 4 1/2 rounds.
