vs. Philadelphia Phantoms
at the Bradley Center

The much hyped pregame 'Trick Pony' concert promised to bring in hoardes of flannel-wearin', Skoal-chewin', rebel flag wavin', Hee Haw watchin' folks. The result was the largest crowd in recent memory (over 11,000), but it was surprising at how few people were actually in attendance for the concert 90 minutes before the opening faceoff. I sure hope the Admirals didn't have to fork over too much money for this glamorized cover band.
With the big crowd, the upper deck was open for only the second time this season, allowing me the chance to view the game from up above like I prefer to do from time to time. I didn't like what I saw.
Coach Noel broke up the line combinations that have worked very well all season, and it was painfully apparent that many of the players were lost. Passes were off the mark, multiple guys going for the same (easy to track down) loose puck, guys fussing around with the puck at the blue line causing offsides calls, players crashing into each other, etc. Hopefully the professor will realize that his experiment has failed and will go back to what is proven to work, with only minor adjustments instead of complete overhauls in the future.
Many people left the game early to beat the traffic, I guess. They missed a bit of a wild last minute of the game. In typical Philly fashion, the Phantoms started trash talking when it appeared their 2-0 lead was going to win it. Something was said that made Simon Gamache flip his unstable lid. He was extremely animated as he flailed about, but didn't actually engage in a fight before being subdued. Seconds later, Timofei Shishkanov did get into a fight, completely wasting Philly's Ben Stafford. Referee Brian Pochmara, whose calls bothered me much of the night, somehow felt the need to give Milwaukee 44 PIM compared to just 5 for Philly in the last altercation of the night, not that it mattered much as the game was just about over, but still.... I couldn't see how he justified that.
