With newly acquired center Chris Minard in pregame warmups and veteran center Tony Hrkac out with the flu, you'd think the rookie would get his chance at his AHL debut. Nope. They dressed seven defensemen instead.
In perhaps an homage to Bob Uecker, San Antonio head coach Steve Ludzik, known for his GQ-wannabe outfits, wore a god-awful putrid green plaid design that made me throw up in my mouth a little.
Defenseman Burke Henry got the chance to play against his former team for the first time, but I didn't see much of any conversation between him and any of the Rampage players.
San Antonio twice tied the game to keep it interesting until late. Dan Hamhuis' shot from thirty feet out found the far upper corner of the net and gave Milwaukee a 3-2 lead with just over 10 minutes remaining in regulation. Wyatt Smith's insurance goal later in the period helped to increase the Admirals winning streak to 4 games and 8 of the last 9.
I was surprised to see the attendance listed as high as it was. The BC was really empty, despite a radio promotion that lowered ticket prices to $9.73. A couple of inches of snow fell that night after the game began that likely kept some worriers from venturing out to the game. As much as I like my elbow room at games, I'd rather see some big crowds to start showing up to support this team. The Packers are out of the playoffs, and the Bucks are about as sad as ever, so it amazes me that the casual Milwaukee sports fans are not turning out more often.
