vs. Chicago Wolves
at the Allstate Arena
My second trip to Chicago this season after staying away alltogether for a few years. The Admirals used newly acquired defenseman Burke Henry, who was loaned to Milwaukee by the Florida Panthers. I was quite impressed with Henry, as he looked very comfortable with his new teammates and didn't make any noticeable mistakes. The Admirals welcomed back Timofei Shishkanov, who missed about a month with an injury.

Watching the pregame warmup, I thought Chicago was going to use Michael Garnett between the pipes, because their superstar netminder Kari Lehtonen was not doing much of anything. After hearing that Lehtonen would indeed be playing, I remarked that he must be too good to have to practice. As you will read, Lehtonen was far from perfect tonight. Guess he shoulda practiced.

After almost half of the season gone by, I hadn't seen a goaltender for either team at any game whistled for delay of game for playing the puck behind the end line outside of the trapezoid 'safe' area. Early in the game, Brian Finley was whistled for that infraction by Bob Langdon, even though he was clearly in front of the end line. Credit the video replay folks in Chicago for showing that it was a b.s. call.

The Admirals killed that nuisance penalty off, and proceeded to build up a 3-0 lead by early in the second period. Chicago rallyed back with a couple of goals, but goals by Tony Hrkac and Andrew Hutchinson (their second goal of the game for each of them) would sew it up.

The big scoreboard message board put up a statistic before the game showing that most every game between these two teams ended with the losers scoring two goals. That held true again tonight as Milwaukee prevailed 5-2.

The Wolves wore a military-design special jersey that would give the Nashville Predators third jersey a run for it's money as the ugliest in pro hockey.
