 Fred Berry
Center
Born - March 26, 1956 in Stony Plain, Alberta
Fred is another example of a guy who has made Milwaukee home after his playing days were over.
After being drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in 1976, he played in their system for a few years,
getting a chance in the NHL for three games (wearing #29) in his first season with them. He was traded to Toledo
in 1978 and played parts of two seasons with the Goaldiggers before coming to Milwaukee in 1980.
In his first two full seasons in Milwaukee, he led the team in scoring. He ranks 13th all time in IHL career
assists and 16th in career points. His #14 was retired in 2003.
After hanging up his skates, he took a job coaching the Marquette University hockey team from 1987-91.
Today, he is best known for co-owning the Milwaukee-area Hockey Haven hockey equipment stores with his brother Bill. Fred
can often be found at the store in Brookfield.
