On January 12, 2008, the American Hockey League's Milwaukee Admirals wore a special jersey honoring the 1982 Milwaukee Brewers in a game against the Rockford (IL) IceHogs.
The jerseys were auctioned off with proceeds going to charity. Each season, Milwaukee wears two or three special jerseys for charity. Previous themed jerseys include St. Patrick's Day, Admirals throwbacks, Christmas, Hawaiian, patriotic, Bob Uecker plaid, and tie dye.
The Admirals have had a cross promotional deal with the Brewers for the past three seasons, wearing the Brewers logo on the front of their regular jersey and displaying advertisements on the boards. In return, the Admirals are promoted at Brewers games at Miller Park.
Brewers owner Mark Attanasio, assistant general manager Gord Ash and pitcher Ben Sheets are minority owners of the Admirals, while Admirals majority owner Harris Turer is a member of the Brewers advisory board. Admirals president Jon Greenberg is the former Brewers media relations director.
Milwaukee is the top farm club for the NHL's Nashville Predators, while Rockford features Chicago Blackhawks prospects. The special jerseys did not prove to be a lucky charm, as Milwaukee blew a 2-0 third period lead, ultimately losing 3-2 in a shootout.
